- reaffirms Government’s commitment to regional development
Last Saturday, Agriculture Minister Honourable Zulfikar Mustapha conducted a community
outreach with residents and farmers of Crabwood Creek as part of the government’s continued
efforts to engage directly with citizens and address their concerns, particularly within the
agriculture sector.

During the meeting, Minister Mustapha reiterated the government’s steadfast commitment to
fulfilling the promises made to the electorate. He stated that, for the first time in Guyana’s
history, every commitment outlined in the government’s manifesto has been fulfilled across all
sectors, underscoring the administration’s dedication to national development and transparency.
“We made several commitments to the people of this country in our manifesto, and, for the first
time in our nation’s history, every commitment made in our manifesto has been fulfilled across
all sectors. Every time we meet with you, we are working to bring solutions to new issues that
arise as time goes by. Those issues become less because we are working every day to deliver the
kind of services needed to improve your lives,” he noted.
While addressing questions from rice farmers who raised concerns about the pricing for the
upcoming crop, Minister Mustapha, highlighting the unpredictability of international market
conditions, said that he could not pronounce on prices at that time. However, he assured the rice
farmers that the government will continue to support the industry so that farmers receive a fair
price
He also commended the collaborative efforts of the farmers and the Guyana Rice Development
Board (GRDB), noting that the projections for the current rice crop were impressive. He revealed
that farmers across the country are expected to produce approximately nine million bags of
paddy, a figure that is expected to increase due to higher-than-average yields observed across
farming regions.
Minister Mustapha also told residents that a number of community roads are scheduled to be
upgraded. He explained that the community road enhancement initiative will see all of the
community roads in Crabwood Creek being upgraded by the end of 2025.
He also spoke about the investments being made to deliver quality education, health,
infrastructure, and housing in the region and across the country.
