“Gov’t foresees continued partnership with IICA to advance agriculture sector” – Minister Mustapha

Today, Country Representative for the Inter-American Institute for Co-operation on Agriculture (IICA), Mr. Wilmot Garnett, paid a courtesy call to Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha as the Institute observes 78 years of service in the Hemisphere, inclusive of 45 years of partnership with the Government of Guyana.

While sending his regards to IICA’s Director General, Dr. Manuel Otero and expressing gratitude to the institute for its notable contribution to the development of Guyana’s agriculture sector, Minister Mustapha said that he looks forward to continued collaborations in this regard.

“On behalf of the Government, I would like to thank IICA for their valuable partnership over the years. The organization has helped us to develop the field and we look forward to the continued corporation as we work to develop the agriculture sector,” Minister Mustapha said.

Since the establishment of its office in Guyana in 1975, IICA has been assisting the Government of Guyana through its Ministry of Agriculture with technical assistance mainly in areas such as  Bioeconomy and production development, Territorial development and family farming, International Trade and Regional Integration, Climate Change, Natural Resources and Risk Management, Agricultural Health, Safety and Food Quality and cross cutting themes such as Women and youth, and Innovation and technology.

Mr. Garnett, while offering brief remarks, thanked the Government for its continued support for their partnership over the years. He added that IICA anticipates fostering closer collaborations and looks forward to many more years of meaningful relations with Guyana.
