32 participants complete Work Study Program at MoA
For the past seven weeks, students who sat this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination from several secondary schools and the Guyana Technical Institute (GTI) participated in a work study program at the Ministry of Agriculture.

During a simple closing ceremony in the Ministry’s boardroom, Rural Affairs Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Valerie Adams-Yearwood congratulated the students for successfully completing the program and urged them to continue to pursue their education.
“With the opportunities ahead of you, I want to encourage you to pursue your education as you stand to benefit greatly in the long run. I understand there are some situations that will require some of you to seek employment immediately but for those of you who have the opportunity of continuing your studies, please do so,” Minister Adams-Yearwood said.
The work study program, which is in its 44th year, saw students receiving work training in two phases, each lasting five weeks.
Students benefited from training in several areas as they were stationed in the various departments and agencies of the Ministry such as the Hydromet Department, the Fisheries Department, the Guyana Marketing Corporation and the Ministry’s Head Office.
Julius Davis, a representative from the Ministry of Education, lauded the efforts of both ministries for continuing to support the annual work study program, adding that in the future he would like to see a nexus developed between work study and immediately entering the world of work.
The participants were presented with a certificate of participation during the ceremony. Two students were also recognized as the most outstanding performers for each phase and presented with additional awards compliments of the Department of Rural Affairs.
The students, while expressing their appreciation for the program noted that the knowledge gained will be stared as they move on to their next chapter.
Also present that the closing ceremony were Permanent Secretary (ag) Dacia Ferguson, Principal Personnel Officer, Bibi Hakim and supervisors from the various departments.
The second phase of the work study program is expected to be completed on August 30th.
