To improve efficiency in the services being offered to the public, the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) today re-launched its website during a simple ceremony in the Ministry of Agriculture’s Boardroom.
The objective of the event is to not only raise awareness on issues affecting the industry, but for farmers and residents to have interaction with the respective personnel.
In delivering remarks, General Manager of the Guyana Rice Development Board, Mr. Nizam Hassan pointed to the fact the website serves as a modem to better enhance the services provided by the Authority.
“The website was built user friendly as it boast content applicable to persons in and outside of Guyana. Rice remains an important pillar in the country’s national development, and this is just another avenue, for us at the GRDB to improve the services provided,” the General Manager said.
Another feature of the website will be to provide information to all stakeholders within the industry, given the need for more relevant, appropriate and timely information.
The Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) is an active sector with respect to research and development, and addressing issues affecting the industry. The Authority also plays a major role in rice trade and market opportunities.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Claude Housty, who welcomed the move by the Authority, noted that while the site remained user friendly in the past, efforts have now been made for the public to access basic information such as current licenced exporters, rice related publications and the rice act.
Mr. Housty also used the opportunity to highlight some of the successes in the industry, adding that information will now be readily available to the public on current affairs within the sector.
“Persons can now have access to the website to view the truth on GRDB’s involvement in this vital industry. Oftentimes, there are rumors of a particular issue and members of the public would carry the information wholesale….this is the opportunity to access up-to-date information,” he said.
In addition, the importance of market opportunities and publicizing the work of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) was underscored by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. George Jervis.
Mr. Jervis used the opportunity to call on staff of the GRDB to be more accessible to the public, by affording them information where necessary.
“A crop that is so important to Guyana must always have modern interface and must also always be updated…..it is necessary that you are available 24/7 to answer any queries or to make available information (data or rice harvested) at any given time.” Mr. Jervis said.
