Guyana looks to US for assistance in Phytosanitary, Soil Mapping -team of experts to meet with Agri. Minister in January

Newly Appointed United States Ambassador to Guyana Mr. Perry Halloway today paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Noel Holder, Minister of Agriculture at his Regent and Shiv Chanderpaul drive office.

During the visit the Ambassador assured the United States continued support to the acceleration of Agricultural Development in Guyana. Among the interventions to be made, the US will consider assisting the Ministry of Agriculture in the areas of Soil Mapping using satellite technology and Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures.

This is aimed at ensure that the country’s agricultural commodities have easier access into the United States market.

“Another such area of which we (United States Government) can lend assistance is in the area of data gathering and collection….Guyana has an abundance in fertile soil and as such, it is necessary for the country’s data collection records to be functional,” he said.

In January, a team of experts will be in Guyana to have meeting with official of the Ministry of Agriculture on the way forward.

Agriculture Minister Hon. Noel Holder welcomed the initiative alluding to the importance of market linkages and ensure that the necessary interventions are in place to ensure that Guyanese commodities can assess the Regional and International markets.
