New access bridges in West Bank Demerara and a major irrigation canal in Region Six are set to be built under works now going to tender by the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA).
Under the Ministry of Agriculture, the authority has invited bids for the construction of access bridges at Coglan Dam, West Bank Demerara, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), with the work split into four lots covering a footpath and the eastern, central, and western sides.
In Region Six (East Corentyne-Corentyne), the NDIA is seeking contractors to build an irrigation canal and intake structure at Crabwood Creek, which is divided into four lots, and to rehabilitate the authority’s pontoon at Adventure.
Bidding will be conducted through National Competitive Bidding procedures under the Procurement Act 2003. Bid documents are available from June 23, 2026, from the NDIA’s office on Regent Street and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, for a non-refundable fee of $3,000 per document.
Completed bids must reach the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board, Ministry of Finance, by 09:00 hours on Thursday, July 16, 2026, when they will be opened in the presence of bidders who choose to attend.
The work falls under the government’s wider push to upgrade drainage and irrigation and improve access to farmlands nationwide. In the 2026 National Budget, $81.9 billion was allocated to drainage and irrigation works.
