To ensure the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes which facilitate the development of agriculture and fisheries in Guyana, thereby contributing to the enhancement of rural life, the sustainable improvement of incomes of producers and other participants in the agricultural production and marketing chain; and the maintenance of a sound physical and institutional environment for present and future productive activities.
Its Mission is addressed through four programme areas which are as follow;-
This department is responsible for effective and efficiently managing and co-ordinating human, financial, physical and material resources necessary for the successful implementation and administration of the Ministry’s programmes and operations.
Crops and Livestock Support Services;
This department promotes and supports the development of agriculture in Guyana through the provision of a range of technical and regulatory services to the sector.
The Fisheries unit is responsible for managing, regulating and promoting the sustainable development of the nation’s fishery resources for the benefit of the participants in the sector and the national economy.
The “Hydromet” Unit is responsible for observing, archiving and understanding Guyana’s weather and climate. It provides meteorological, hydrological, and oceanographic services in support of Guyana’s national needs and international obligations.
