A high profile seminar on agricultural policies in the Caribbean was held at the Hotel Royal Torarica in Paramaribo, Suriname by the Environment, Rural Development, and Disaster Risk Management Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

The objective of the seminar which concluded on Tuesday was aimed at bringing together Agriculture Ministers and other key policymakers from Barbados, Belize, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname, The Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago to discuss the interpretation of agricultural analyses that were conducted in recent years by the IDB and the respective governments.

Additionally, discussions were held on the future of Agriculture within the region and working as a collective body to ensure continued development in the agriculture sector in the Caribbean and Latin America.

During the seminar, Agricultural Policy Experts presented results of these analyses, and related studies on the determinants of agricultural productivity, growth and the impact evaluations of country specific policies implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Agriculture Minister, Noel Holder stated that the seminar offered interesting dialogue on agricultural policies in the region and measures on how agricultural effectiveness and efficiency in the region can be further enhanced.

Minister Holder was accompanied by Agriculture Sector Development Unit (ASDU) Project Coordinator, Mr. Khemlall Alvin.
