Pineapples: Bold and Fascinating

Spiny on the outside, sweet on the inside-pineapples are often described as one of the most fascinating fruits on earth. Pineapples are members of the bromeliad family, and one of the few bromeliads to produce edible fruit. The fruit is actually made of many individual berries that fuse together around a central core. Each pineapple scale is actually an individual berry. A pineapple’s nutritional benefits are as fascinating as their anatomy. Pineapples contain high amounts of vitamin C, manganese, are also a good way to get important dietary fiber and bromelain. They also contain relatively high amounts of manganese and thiamin, a B vitamin, which is important for antioxidant defences and energy production.
